Furidian Friends: PET COMPANION CRISIS NETWORK

Supporting organizations helping pets and families through crisis, displacement, disaster, and hardship.

When families face crisis, their pets often become the forgotten victims.

  • A hurricane forces an evacuation.

  • A wildfire destroys a neighborhood.

  • A house fire leaves a family without a home.

  • A survivor of domestic violence needs a safe place to go.

  • A medical emergency, financial hardship, or housing crisis turns life upside down.

  • In the midst of these challenges, families are often faced with an impossible question:

What happens to the pet?

For millions of people, pets are not possessions. They are family members, companions, and sources of comfort during life's most difficult moments.

Furidian Friends created the Pet Companion Crisis Network to help ensure that families facing crisis have options, support, and hope before separation becomes the only choice.

help create Opportunities Through Education, Rescue & Community

Every contribution helps expand access to educational programs, technology resources, community initiatives, and crisis support networks that empower individuals, protect companion animals, and strengthen communities.

Our Story

In October 2016, Hurricane Matthew struck Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Our home was among those damaged by the storm.

Like many families, we were displaced while our community worked to recover.

During that experience, I saw firsthand how difficult a crisis can become for pet owners. Temporary housing options were limited. Families were sharing space. Resources were stretched thin. Everyone was simply trying to get through the next day while rebuilding their lives.

The experience left a lasting impression.

Years later, it inspired the creation of Furidian Friends and the Pet Companion Crisis Network.

I realized that when families face disaster, hardship, or emergency situations, pets are often overlooked despite being among the most important members of the family.

Our goal is simple: help support the organizations that work every day to keep pets safe and families together during times of crisis.

The Crisis We Support

Every crisis is different, but the challenges facing pets and families are often the same.

  • Natural Disasters

Hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, wildfires, earthquakes, and other disasters can force families from their homes with little warning.

  • Housing Emergencies

House fires, building damage, and other unexpected events can leave families suddenly displaced and searching for temporary housing that accommodates their pets.

  • Domestic Violence

Many survivors delay leaving dangerous situations because they fear what may happen to their pets if they leave them behind.

  • Financial Hardship

Job loss, medical emergencies, and economic challenges can create temporary situations where families need support to care for their companion animals.

  • Community Emergencies

When communities experience crisis, local organizations often need additional resources to support affected pets and their owners.

How we operate

The Pet Companion Crisis Network is not a rescue organization.

We do not operate shelters, remove animals from homes, provide foster placements, or conduct rescue operations.

Instead, we support the organizations already doing that critical work.

Our role is to strengthen the network of trusted shelters, rescues, foster organizations, domestic violence programs, pet food banks, veterinary partners, and disaster response organizations serving pets and families in crisis.

Through fundraising, community engagement, awareness initiatives, supply drives, volunteer support, and strategic partnerships, we help connect resources with the organizations that need them most.

Because helping the helpers creates greater impact than any single organization can achieve alone.
